BEIJING, May 21 (Xinhua) -- As Asia's security situation remains complex and volatile, the concept of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security China has advised is timely, pertinent and significant and will help safeguard regional development.
In addition to painful memories and irreparable wounds from history, Western colonialism and the Cold War, which have sown the seeds of trouble, secret maneuvers by players from other parts of the world are further complicating Asia's security situation.
Meanwhile, though Asia has enjoyed breath-taking momentum in economic growth, it faces many security threats, both conventional and unconventional, such as the "three evil forces" of separatism, extremism and terrorism, organized cross-border crime, natural disasters and cyber-security.
More and more Asian countries have recognized that security cooperation is an important part of regional collaboration, calling for common security, openness and inclusiveness, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation.
WIN-WIN COOPERATION FOSTERS SAFETY
To achieve peace and stability, economic interaction is indispensable. Only if all countries in the region share interests and shoulder responsibility can security be guaranteed.
Taking Europe as an example. Its every step forward in integration -- from the European Coal and Steel Community to the birth of the euro -- is connected with economic collaboration.
Similarly, the integrating of interests of Asian countries is a powerful guarantee against risks and challenges.
Initiatives such as the Bangladesh-India-Myanmar-China economic corridor, the China-Pakistan economic corridor, the Silk Road Economic Belt, the 21st century maritime Silk Road, an upgraded China-ASEAN free trade area and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership have connected China closely with the whole continent, and proved that China has been working hard to advocate and promote Asian security.
MECHANISM GUARANTEES SAFETY
Without the creation of a mechanism and risk control system, security talks are pointless. So to create an inclusive, open, mutually beneficial security and collaboration structure is in line with Asian countries' common interests.
Such mechanisms as the Six-Party Talks on the Korean Peninsular nuclear issue, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and other diplomatic efforts are a vivid embodiment of China's open and practical spirit and its endeavor to achieve peace in Asia.
The growing focus on the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia, a pan-Asian security mechanism whose fourth summit opened in Shanghai on Tuesday, is regarded as an opportunity to explore Asia's security and cooperation structure.
Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain said his country expected the member countries to further strengthen this forum and find ways to implement its ideals and guiding principles into political and economic realities for the benefit of the entire region.
