DAKAR, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- Senegalese comedians who returned recently from China have expressed their appreciation of China's rapid development in terms of high quality cultural infrastructure.

The comedians had spent two months in China participating in the production of a French version of the Chinese television series "Doudou and her Mothers-in-Law."

Comedian Josephine Zambo, a retired actress, told Xinhua she found China had made a lot progress when compared to her last visit to the country in 1970.

"China has become more modern much faster than anyone can imagine," said the Senegalese actress, who acted as a grand-mother in the Chinese series.

The artist said she first visited China in 1970 with African Ballet from the Republic of Guinea and later returned there with a Senegalese Ballet.

"That was 28 years ago when I visited China. It's now unthinkable what I have seen in China," Zambo said.

Another comedian, Matar Diouf, said China could just be compared to the U.S., which is known for the quality of its films and cultural infrastructure.

"China has made a lot of progress in the area of cultural infrastructure. I have visited many countries in Asia, America, Europe and Africa. But I find China have advanced more than what people who have never visited the country think," he said.

"Initially, when we spoke about China, everyone just thought of the martial arts. But today when we see Chinese films, their quality makes us ask whether they were produced by Americans or by Chinese living in the U.S.," Diouf added.

"On the technical front, everybody knows China is highly developed. It has passed so many countries and it's now very far," he affirmed.

Oumy Marie Diallo, another comedian in the "Doudou and her Mothers-in-Law" series, expressed her surprise over China's development in the area of cultural infrastructure.

"The Chinese are very advanced. We were very surprised. They can quickly mount a studio, with a lot of techniques and professionalism," she explained.

"You are simply astounded by their infrastructure. Everything is beautiful in China," Diallo said, noting that she got the impression of a very hardworking people.

"Having achieved such results within a very short time, it confirms that they had to work very hard. If we could emulate this Chinese model, I think Senegal and Africa in general could go very far," she said.
