Liu Yue is the Director of the English department of the Chinese Social Sciences Net (CSSN), CASS. She is also a postdoctoral student in the Institute of World Economics and Politics (IWEP), CASS. In 2007-2009, she was invited by both the University of Central Oklahoma and George Washington University as a visiting scholar, supported by China's Ministry of Education. Her primary research interest is in the history of American foreign policy and Energy policy.

US energy independence – a grand yet unattainable dream
“Energy Independence” has been a dream for the US ever since the 1973 oil crisis, when the Arabian oil-exporting countries imposed an oil embargo against the US. This dream has gained support from the US presidents as well as the general public. The energy corporations and environmental protection organizations are at loggerheads on almost all issues, but they are on high consensus on this issue. The shale gas revolution in the country, the increase in domestic oil production and the improvement in energy efficiency have once again made “energy independence” the hottest topic in the US media.
