BEIJING, Sept. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- Two Yosemite National Park campgrounds in California were forced to close temporarily days ago for a dead squirrel found lately in Lake Tahoe has tested positive for plague.
According to local health official, the squirrel was discovered at a picnic area near the Tallac Historic Site, and no contacts between humans and the squirrel were reported so far.
Karen Bender, a supervisor with the El Dorado County Environmental Management Division, said people need to be cautious about animals that can carry the disease.
Plague is naturally present in many parts of California, including higher elevation areas of El Dorado County.
Two human cases of the plague have been reported in California so far in 2015. Both people were treated and recovered.
