BUJUMBURA, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Burundi is to send a team of medical staff that will help control the Ebola virus in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea where the deadly virus has killed more than 4,000 victims since the beginning of this year, the country's health minister said Wednesday.
"A team of Burundian nurses and physicians will soon be deployed to Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea where Ebola has been making victims. The Ebola virus is more than a health issue, but also a security issue," Dr Sabine Ntakarutimana, Burundi's Public Health and AIDS Control Minister, told MPs while he was invited to the National Assembly to answer their questions on Ebola virus and mental diseases.
According to her, the Burundian government is making a list of nurses and physicians who are willing to go to assist those West African countries in the fight against the Ebola outbreak.
However, she did not reveal the exact date the team will leave for those countries.
So far, the east African country is free from the Ebola virus and has taken measures to prevent Ebola from entering the country through a tight control on major entry points, especially at Bujumbura International Airport.
