Singapore contributes 150,000 USD to WHO to fight Ebola

SINGAPORE, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Singapore will contribute a further 150,000 U.S. dollars to the World Health Organization (WHO) to fight the spread of Ebola, the country's Health Ministry and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Tuesday.

It said that the contribution is in response to appeals from the WHO and the United Nations, and that the republic is "deeply concerned" about the unprecedented scale of the Ebola outbreak in West and Central Africa and the suffering caused by inadequate medical facilities and resources.

The contribution would be used to support the Ebola Response Roadmap of the WHO, in addition to earlier contribution of an aid package comprising medicines, medical supplies and personal protective equipment.

"Singapore will continue to work closely with the UN and WHO to explore how best we can contribute to the ongoing efforts," the ministries said.
