HANOI, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Vietnamese localities are strengthening preventive measures to prevent A/H5N6 outbreak as the virus has been detected in three provinces out of its 63 provinces and cities so far.
The Department of Heath of Lao Cai province, some 250 km north west of capital Hanoi, was the latest locality reporting the present of A/H5N6 virus on pheasants at a farm in Bao Thang District.
Nong Dinh Hung, deputy director of the provincial health department said to Vietnam's state-run news agency VNA on Thursday that authorities of Lao Cai are implementing measures to decontaminate virus-detected area as well as to monitor the situation of poultries in the province.
Some 29 people in the family and personnel who involved in the destruction of infected poultry destruction are being closely monitored, reported VNA.
In early August, Vietnam has detected the A/H5N6 virus in poultries for the first time in the country in northern Lang Son province (some 130 km north of capital Hanoi) and central Ha Tinh province (some 300 km south of Hanoi), according to the Department of Veterinary under Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The Veterinary Department said on its website that it is continuing to direct the prevention of the disease from spreading to other localities nationwide.
