BEIJING, Aug. 13 (Xinhuanet) -- Tributes poured in from around the world as stunned friends and families search for answers why Robin Williams has taken his own life.
Robin Williams, 63, was found dead Monday afternoon at his home near Tiburon, Marin County, California. Investigators believed he used a belt to hang himself from a bedroom door, according to Marin County Assistant Deputy Chief Coroner Lt. Keith Boyd.
The actor and comedian has been battling sever depression of late, Robin Williams’media representative Mara Buxbaum told media Sunday.
In the wake of Williams' death, mental health experts and those who have battled depression say it's a prime opportunity to shine a light on this misunderstood and stigmatized disease.
According to the World Health Organization,about 350 million people worldwide suffer from depression.
Despite how common the mental disorders is, many people do not have clear idea of what it means to have depression, and often regard it as being the same as sadness.
As media on Wednesday call for raising of awareness of depression, people should be educated about the signs and symptoms of depression, which include sadness, loss of pleasure, loss of energy, social withdrawal, and in some cases, suicidal thoughts.
