AMMAN, May 5 (Xinhua) -- Jordan confirms on Monday a new case of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) coronavirus infection that has been spreading throughout the region, the state- run Petra news agency said.
The country's health ministry said a person tested positive for the deadly virus but declined giving more information. Eight MERS cases have been detected in Jordan since 2012, three of those died.
The MERS outbreak has caused panic throughout the region, prompting many governments to launch awareness campaigns and precautionary measures in an effort to prevent the spread of the virus.
Saudi Arabia, the hardest hit country, has reported 371 confirmed infections of the killer virus and a death toll of 107 people in the past two years. Enditem
