RIYADH, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Saudi Arabia on Wednesday reported 11 new cases of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome ( MERS) coronavirus infections, bringing the total to 272.
The number of MERS-related deaths remained at 81.
Of the 11 new cases, eight patients are in intensive care, the Health Ministry said in a statement. One of the new cases was a female medical worker.
On Tuesday, the country launched a nationwide operations room to control the infection and promote awareness about the illness that has no vaccine yet.
Saudi Arabia has been in close contact with international pharmaceutical companies to develop a vaccine to protect people from the infection, authorities said.
