GENEVA, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- Britain has informed the World Health Organization (WHO) of a confirmed case with infection of the novel coronavirus, bringing the total number of the confirmed cases to 10, the WHO said Monday.
The patient, a British resident who had recently travelled to the Middle East and Pakistan, is receiving intensive care treatment in hospital in Manchester, northern England.
"The new case does indicate that the virus is persistent," WHO said in a statement, "WHO encourages all Member States to continue their surveillance for severe acute respiratory infections (SARI) and to carefully review any unusual patterns."
It recommended countries test anyone with unexplained pneumonia for the virus.
Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses which includes viruses that cause the common cold and severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).
