ABUJA, April 26 (Xinhua) -- The executive director of the United Nations Program on AIDS (UNAIDS), Michel Sidibe, has expressed confidence that Nigeria could eradicate mother-to-child transmission of HIV by 2015.

Sidibe expressed the view when he led a delegation of UNAIDS officials to the State House in Abuja on Thursday to discuss the global eradication of the virus with the First Lady, Patience Jonathan.

"I want you to continue to advocate for Nigeria and Africa and through the governors' wives to prevent HIV babies in the states, to increase the budget to make sure that we have a strong primary health care service for pregnant women to have access to these services," he said.

The first lady in her address said after the AIDS meeting in June 2011, she set up a committee headed by the Minister of State, Mohammed Pate, and action was on-going on the report submitted by the committee.
