Spanish police arrest at least five internet users in operation

MADRID, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Spanish Civil Guards arrested at least five people on Thursday in an operation against people making apologies for or justifying acts of terrorism on social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, it has been confirmed by Spanish authorities.

The arrests took place as part of an operation known as 'Operation Arana' (Operation Spider), which was begun in April when it detected around 20 internet users who were praising terrorism and insulting victims of the Basque separatist group ETA over the internet.

The five arrests to date (two of which were of minors) were in the Basque province of Vizcaya, with three of them in the city of Bilbao, although the operation is continuing in other parts of the Basque Region, Navarra, Madrid, Catalonia and Galicia and further arrests are expected.
