WARSAW, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- The Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for Poland rose to 51.2 points in October from 49.5 points in September, according to an HSBC report based on a Markit survey, it was reported Monday.

This is the highest level since April 2014 and the first time since June that the index has been above 50 points, indicating expansion.

Growth of new orders was the most significant factor which contributed to the improvement in the sector.

"Although the growth pace was moderate, it was the biggest increase in new orders since April," HSBC said in a statement.

"Still, export demand remained weak and the number of export orders declined (albeit only slightly) for the sixth month in a row," the bank added.

Inventories of finished goods dropped visibly, which indicates that production may continue to grow in the coming month.

Poland's inflationary pressures remained weak, with production costs growing moderately and prices of finished goods continuing their decline, HSBC noted.

The HSBC Poland Manufacturing PMI is a composite single-figure indicator of manufacturing performance, tracking changes in new orders, output, employment, suppliers' delivery times and stocks of purchases. A PMI reading above 50 indicates expansion in the sector, whereas below 50 signals contraction.
