FRANKFURT, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- The benchmark DAX index at the Frankfurt Stock Exchange on Monday dropped by nearly 1 percent and closed below 9,000 points.

The positive results of German banks in the European Central Bank stress test sent the blue-chip index higher. However, the poor economic data from Germany and other negative elements made the index plunge. The DAX index dropped by 0.95 percent and closed at 8,902.61 points.

However, the expectations for this week of trading are positive, according to the German business daily Handelsblatt.

The health care company Fresenius SE & Co. KGaA, the gas company Linde AG and the home care company Henkel AG & Co. KGaA Vz were the only three shares that managed to advance, up by 0.77 percent, 0.43 percent and 0.32 percent respectively.

On the other hand, the chemical company BASF SE was the top faller, down by 3.14 percent. The semiconductor producer Infineon Technologies AG went down by 2.92 percent. The utilities company RWE AG St, Deutsche Bank AG and the fertilizer company K+S Aktiengesellschaft lost 1.42 percent to 1.46 percent.

The turnover stood at 3.41 billion euros (about 4.33 billion U.S. dollars). Commerzbank AG was the most traded share of the day with a turnover of 358.3 million euros. (1 euro = 1.27 U.S. dollars)
