MILAN, Italy, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- European, Italian and Milan flags will wave on 500 public buildings in Milan by the opening of the upcoming world exposition, local authorities said on Wednesday.
The government of Milan, which will host the Expo Milano 2015 from May 1 to Oct. 31, said in a statement the three institutional flags have been already lifted on top of more than 200 schools, museums, libraries and public places including the Milano Linate airport.
The initiative, named "City Dressing," also includes the installation of banners, posters and standards in various points of Milan to highlight its international spirit and will to welcome the expected 20 million visitors from all over the world.
The campaign, which cost the Milan government 150,000 euros (177,560 U.S. dollars), will be especially focused on signaling to visitors the Expo initiatives and iconic landmarks of Milan which have been important for its past, present and future.
"City Dressing will be like a subliminal map to orient tourists in their visit as well as a message, a short but effective one, for local residents to strengthen their memory of Milan," the statement said.
Wednesday was the national feast of the Italian flag, also known as "Tricolor," marked by a celebration at the presidential palace in Rome.
