LONDON, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- British Prime Minister David Cameron on Tuesday discussed the country's first Ebola case with Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon in a phone call, pledging to give all-out to support the patient.

A female healthcare worker on Monday was confirmed as having Ebola after returning to Glasgow in central Scotland from Sierra Leone on Sunday night, the Scottish government said.

"The Prime Minister and the First Minister discussed the UK's robust and practiced response procedures in place and how these were being strictly followed," A Downing Street spokesman said in a statement on Tuesday.

"The Prime Minister made clear that the UK government stood ready to assist in any way possible," the statement added.

Cameron and Sturgeon agreed that both governments would "remain in close touch and ensure everything possible was done to support the patient."

The statement noted that "all measures would be taken to protect public health," although the risk to the general population "remained low."

"The Prime Minister's thoughts are with the patient and her friends and family at this difficult time," the spokesperson said.
