ZAGREB, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- Two candidates will compete in the presidential run-off on January 11 after no one won Sunday's election, Croatian State Electoral Committee (SEC) announced Sunday night.

The two candidates are incumbent President Ivo Josipovic and Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic from Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), it said.

With 97.26 percent of the votes counted, Josipovic won 38.56 percent of the vote, while Grabar-Kitarovic got 37.09 percent. Total turnout was 47.10 percent of 3.8 million of registered voters.

The activist Vilibor Sincic managed to win 16.46 percent while Milan Kujundzic, candidate of six right wing parties, got only 6.29 percent.

Final results will be known on Monday morning, SEC said.

In accordance with laws, when none of the candidates wins more than 50 percent of the votes, the two candidates who get most votes will compete in a run-off.

Croatia's presidential election kicked off early Sunday morning, the first since the country jointed the European Union (EU) in 2013.
