MILAN, Italy, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- Some people were reported to be missing and other injured by Italian media after two merchant ships collided off the Italian northern port of Ravenna on Sunday.
ANSA news agency said the collision occurred between a Turkish-flagged and a Belizen-flagged vessels. The Turkish merchant ship was reportedly sinking.
Search and rescue operations by the firefighters and port authorities were underway and one person was rescued, according to local media.
National newspaper Corriere della Sera said the incident perhaps was due to low visibility. Northern Italy has been covered in thick fog over the past days.
