European professionals discuss ways to promote cyber security

BRUSSELS, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- More than 200 organisations and 400 cyber-security professionals from 29 European countries on Thursday gathered to discuss how to promote cyber security at the European Union (EU) level.

At the event namely The Cyber Europe 2014, attenders communicated in testing procedures to share operational information on cyber-crisis in Europe, discussed about enhancing national capabilities to tackle cyber crises, exploring the effect of multiple and parallel information exchanges between private-public, private-private at national and international level.

The attenders also test out the EU-Standard Operational Procedures (EU-SOPs), a set of guidelines to share operational information on cyber crisis.

Commenting on the event, the Executive Director of ENISA, Udo Helmbrecht said the test exercise during the event will identify the next steps to take in order to keep improving.

"Five years ago there were no procedures to drive cooperation during a cyber-crisis between EU Member States. Today we have the procedures in place collectively to mitigate a cyber-crisis on European level," Helmbrecht said.
