BEIJING, Oct. 10 (Xinhuanet) – Proctor & Gamble's latest hair dye ad featuring actress Christina Hendricks was banned in the U.K.
The Advertising Standards Authority, UK's advertising regulator, ruled that Proctor & Gamble misled viewers to believe its hair dye product Clairol can turn user's hair from bright red to golden blonde.
As a matter of fact, the commercial was not shot in the order of the real transformation.
U.S. actress Christina Hendricks is known for her fiery red locks, but she's naturally blond. She was quoted by fashion magazine Marie Claire as saying "I thought it would be refreshing to go back to blond" when talking about her recent hair color change.
Procter & Gamble admitted that the commercial in question was filmed in reverse: Hendricks was a blonde and then she was red, which is just the opposite of the reality.
"We are disappointed in the outcome as we are confident that the color change we depicted is achievable using our products," the company said in a statement. "However, we respect the final decision of the ASA and will be removing the television copy from air with immediate effect."
