SANTIAGO, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- Chinese composer Tan Dun will present his works at the an International Theater Festival in Santiago.
Tan, an Academy Award-winner for his original scores for the film "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," will present "Martial Arts Trilogy" Sunday evening at Constitution Square.
He will later present a new multimedia production called "Nu Shu: The Secret Songs of Women," which pays tribute to the unique lyrical traditions of the women of China's southeast Hunan Province, where the composer was born.
"Nu Shu" consists of 13 movements, each accompanied by short videos shot by Tan, who weaves together stories of mothers and daughters preserving the ancient Nu Shu custom of song-making passed down from generation to generation.
The festival will feature other works by Chinese composers and performance artists, including "Melodies of Spring" and "Gang of Butterfly Girls."
The festival of performing arts, which opened Saturday and runs until Jan. 21, also features stage shows from Germany, Spain, Greece, Belgium, Australia, Israel and Iran, as well as countries throughout Latin America.
