BEIJING, July 9 (Xinhuanet) --'Cats,' the Andrew Lloyd Webber classic based on the poems of T.S. Eliot, is returning to London's West End for a one-month stint over the festive season later this year.
While discussing the upcoming West End revival of 'Cats', Andrew Lloyd Webber hinted that a movie version of the hit musical might be on its way.
The show originally opened in 1981 at the New London Theatre and ran for 21 years, a record breaking feat at the time. Now it is returning with new compositions by Lloyd Webber.
'Cats' is based on T.S.Eliot's 'Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats.' Lloyd Webber read the books as a child and experimented later in life to adapt them to music. In 1980, he performed ten of the adapted poems at the Sydmonton Festival and invited Eliot's widow, Valerie. After the concert, she granted Lloyd Webber unprecedented access to Eliot's work and even allowed him to view some of his unpublished work about cats.
For the production, which is set to hit the stage this December, Lloyd Webber will be tinkering with a few of his original adaptations.
'Cats' will hit the stage on December 6 at the London Palladium, in what many are hoping will be an exciting second run for the musical.
