BEIJING, Oct. 30 (Xinhuanet) -- The Shanghai Grand Theatre is just weeks away from reopening after months of renovation. On Saturday the box office began selling discounted tickets for shows beginning next month. Seats for 12 domestic and overseas shows were just 80 yuan.
Because the renovation hasn’t finished, the theater set up a temporary box office at the nearby Shanghai Art Musuem. Lines started to form as early as 5 in the morning.
Many said they wanted to see the National Theater of China’s production of a drama called Grand Mansion. That show’s 120 discount tickets were sold out within an hour.
I prefer Chinese drama because I think there could be cultural barriers watching imported ones.
The Shanghai’s Grand Theater’s reopening season will have six performances, including the Hungarian opera "Attila."
Zhang Xiaoding, Shanghai Grand Theatre, said, "It’s hard to get regular tickets for some shows, not to mention the discounted ones because organizers save those tickets from regular ones."
All 800 discount tickets were sold out this morning. Seats are still available, but at full price. The theater began its renovation in February.
