LOS ANGELES, March 5 (Xinhua) -- "Django Unchained" has once again been thrust into spotlight as the spaghetti western tied with the comedy "Ted" to lead the nominations for the 2013 MTV Movie Awards.
Quentin Tarantino's epic film gathered seven nods Tuesday, including the coveted Movie of the Year. "Ted," a bawdy comedy from Seth McFarlane, who hosted the 85th Academy Awards ceremony Feb. 24, also shared the limelight be nabbing seven mentions, including Best Female Performance for Mila Kunis.
"Silver Linings Playbook," a dark drama starring Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence followed with six nominations. The three popular films, along with "The Dark Knight Rises" and "The Avengers," were nominated for the honor of movie of the year.
Jamie Foxx who played the titular role in "Django Unchained" will vie for the best male performance against Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis for "Lincoln," Ben Affleck for "Argo," Bradley Cooper for "Silver Linings Playbook," and Channing Tatum for "Magic Mike."
Oscar winners Jennifer Lawrence of "Silver Linings Playbook" and Anne Hathaway of "Les Miserables" were mentioned as contenders for best female performance, as were Mila Kunis for "Ted," Emma Watson for "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" and Rebel Wilson for "Pitch Perfect."
Two categories were featured in this year's event. Channing Tatum, Taylor Lautner, Daniel Craig and Christian Bale will fight against the titular bear from "Ted" for best shirtless performance, while "Les Miserables," "Magic Mike," "Pitch Perfect," "Silver Linings Playbook" and "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" will try to dominate at the best musical moment.
The nominees were chosen by producers and executives at MTV and the winners will be decided by fans through online voting which started on Tuesday.
The list of winners will be unveiled at a live event on MTV at the Sony Studios lot in Culver City, Los Angeles, on April 14.
