LOS ANGELES, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- "Silver Linings Playbook" finished as the biggest winner at the 28th Independent Spirit Awards held in Santa Monica, California, taking home four top awards including best independent feature on the eve of the 85th Academy Awards which takes place at Dolby Theater Sunday night.
The indie darling which has won rave reviews from film critics and wild following by fans, prevailed at the annual gala which recognized the year's best independent films.
Jennifer Lawrence, who played a depressed and manic young widow in the romantic drama, was named best actress, while helmer David O. Russell won the best director and best screenplay honors.
The best actor, which is regarded as one of the top awards coming from the event, went to John Hawkes for "The Session."
The indie drama also won the best supporting actress for Helen Hunt.
Matthew McConaughey, who starred in the 2012 male stripper movie "Magic Mike," was recognized with best supporting actor Spirit Award.
