MADRID, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- The film "Blancanieves" (Snow White) by director Pablo Berger will represent Spain in the category of 'Best film in a foreign language' in the 85th edition of the Oscars, it was decided on Thursday.
The silent film, shot in black and white, stars well-known actress Maribel Verdu and actor Daniel Gimenez Cacho. The film beat other hopefuls such as the police thriller "Grupo 7" and "El Artista y la Modelo" directed by Fernando Trueba, who previously won an Oscar for "Belle Epoch."
"I hope the film has the success it deserves and that it is in Hollywood winning a fifth Oscar for Spanish films," said Enrique Gonzalez Macho, president of the Spanish Cinema Academy, while announcing the decision.
"Blancanieves" is a reworking of the classic fairy tale set in the south of Spain. It opens in cinemas in Spain on Sept. 28.
