LOS ANGELES, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Hollywood veteran Don Mischer was picked up Thursday to direct the 85th Academy Awards ceremony, marking his third consecutive stint on the annual event.

Mischer, who directed the 83rd and 84th Oscar telecast, was named by telecast producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron as helmsmen overseeing the event.

His firm, Don Mischer Productions, will also produce the Oscar red carpet pre-show and annual Governors Awards which will be held at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center on Dec. 1.

"I am so very excited to be directing the Academy Awards again this year and to be working with creative producers like Craig and Neil," said Mischer.

"For a very long time, we had always hoped to work with Don Mischer," Zadan and Meron said in a prepared statement announcing their decision. "His talent and reputation are unsurpassed and we're so happy he will be our collaborator on the 85th Academy Awards."

As one of the most-recognized producers and directors on the Hollywood scene, Mischer has won 51 Emmy Awards, 10 Directors Guild of America Awards, two NAACP Image Awards, among others.

He also produced "We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial," "The Kennedy Center Honors," as well as television specials for popular singers such as Bruce Springsteen, Beyonce, Bono, Barbra Streisand, Justin Timberlake and Yo-Yo Ma.

The 85th Academy Award telecast will be held at the Dolby Theatre Feb. 24, 2013.
