BEIJING, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- After making her debut as a film producer in 2009, Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi, who starred in "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" and "Memoirs of a Geisha," is set to produce "My Lucky Star," her second romantic comedy.
The film, a sequel to "Sophie's Revenge" (2009), which took in over 100 million yuan (15.7 million U.S. dollars), has recently started shooting, according to a press release from Bona Film Group on Wednesday.
Like "Sophie's Revenge," Zhang will play the heroine Sophie, and Chinese-American pop singer-songwriter Leehom Wang will replace actor Peter Ho, who starred in the 2009 comedy, to play the lead male role.
"I have been longing for an opportunity to work with Wang, as he is such a good singer and actor. So, I invited him to join Sophie in another adventure," Zhang was quoted as saying in the statement.
According to the statement, actresses Ruby Lin and Yao Chen will again play Sophie's friends. However, Fan Bingbing will not return as Sophie's rival in the new film, and the casting for this part is being kept secret.
"My Lucky Star" will be shot in Beijing, Hong Kong, Macao, Singapore and some European cities, the statement said.
"Sophie will bring audiences freshness and excitement from the leading cities of fashion," said Bona's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Yu Dong.
