GENEVA, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- A breathtaking 60-minute fireworks show provided a fairytale ending to the Geneva festival over the weekend.
More than half a million people came to see the display featuring more than 20,000 individual fireworks costing 1 million Swiss Francs (1.1 million U.S. dollars).
Creative director of the Geneva fireworks, Pierre-Alain Beretta, said: “This year, we shared a story that is the evolution of watch making from its start to today, going through each step and era of the process. The story was transmitted through the music, the fireworks and its effects.”
The fireworks are an annual spectacle that ends a month of summer festivities in the city. The Geneva Festival welcomes nearly 2 million visitors and features more than 150 free concerts on four different stages.
The festival first took place in 1923 -- then called Flower Festival -- before officially becoming “Fetes de Geneve” in 1947.
