LONDON, March 6 (Xinhua) -- One of the greatest masterpieces of British landscape painter John Constable will be displayed in a museum in Cardiff, the capital of Wales, on Friday, as the first stop of a tour around Britain.
The work, "Salisbury Cathedral from Meadows," is a masterpiece of British landscape painting. It was painted in 1831 and Constable himself said it was his favorite.
"The painting is a fine complement to our historic art collections here in Cardiff, which include examples of landscape art by some of our best-known artists, from Tudor times to the modern day," said Peter Wakelin, director of collection and research of the museum on Thursday.
Constable was born in 1776 at a village in Suffolk in Britain. He was mainly known for his landscape paintings.
After six months of exhibition in Wales, the masterpiece will travel to museums around Britain in the following four years.
