ZAGREB, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Croatian Ministry of Science, Education and Sports on Monday signed with Microsoft an Education Transformation Agreement (ETA) to upgrade Croatia's education system.
Visiting Microsoft Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer and Croatian Minister of Science, Education and Sports Zeljko Jovanovic attended the signing ceremony.
The agreement will help schools and universities in the country use more modern IT tools and solutions in their curriculum, according to local media. Around 550,000 students, teachers and professors will benefit from the agreement, it said.
"Stronger introduction of new and particularly IT technologies will facilitate the transformation of Croatia's education, boost innovations and develop skills necessary for employment in the 21st century and in that way increase Croatia's competitiveness on the global market," Jovanovic said.
Also on Monday, Croatian Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic held talks with Ballmer on development of the IT sector in Croatia.
Microsoft has developed a partner-like system with more than 1,100 Croatian companies and around 46 percent of jobs in the IT sector in Croatia are related to Microsoft technology, according to a press release from the prime minister's public relations office.
