ADDIS ABABA, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- China's Henan Art Troupe staged fascinating performances at the Ethiopian National Theater Hall on Friday night, its second show during its three-nation Africa tour.
Organized jointly by the Ethiopian Ministry of Culture and Tourism and its Chinese counterpart, the performances were part of the activities to celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year which falls on Feb. 10, Chinese Ambassador Xie Xiaoyan said before the performances, which lasted more than two hours.
Traditional Chinese Yu Opera performances characterized by strong and high-pitched voices, singing, acrobatic and magic shows as well as Chinese kongfu feats provided the audience with a visual and audial feast.
Culture is among the few things that bring people together to learn from one another, Xie said, adding that the performances were designed to reveal the charm of the Chinese culture to the Africans.
In addition to economic cooperation, cultural cooperation between Ethiopia and China has also prospered, Ethiopian Minister of Culture and Tourism Amin Abdulkadir said.
The two countries have long enjoyed a relationship of mutual benefit and "have gained encouraging results from this good and long-standing relation," Amin said.
China and African countries agreed to expand cultural exchanges during the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation last July.
After Ethiopia, the art troupe will head to Malawi, the last stop of its Africa tour. It performed in Rwanda on Monday.
