VIENNA, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- The president of Austrian League for Child and Youth Health appealed to the public for a concept change toward child protection on Wednesday.
While releasing the annual report Wednesday, the League's President Klaus Vavrik said, "Child protection is much more than protection from direct violence."
The use of violence also includes all forms of mental pressure, such as humiliation, withdrawal of affection, and the causing of anxiety, said Vavrik, adding that these factors often lead to the need of therapy a few years later although 98 percent of children are born healthy.
Over 50 percent of young Austrian adults claimed to have experienced some form of physical violence in their childhood and youth, while only 30 percent of parents said they did not use any physical violence on their children.
