TOKYO, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese traditional dress exhibition "A Hundred-Year History of Shanghai Cheongsam (Qipao)" kicked off Tuesday at Tokyo's China Cultural Center.
Tens of beautiful Chinese traditional dresses were on display, some with dragon, phoenix and peony embroideries which reflect the traditional Chinese culture. Photos showing the evolution of the traditional dress were also exhibited.
"Qipao is very unique and representative in Chinese culture. Now that China and Japan are going through a very difficult time, the opening of this event on-schedule is therefore very meaningful. Many Japanese friends came today and I wanted to thank them for their support," said Wang Wan, wife of China's Ambassador to Japan Cheng Yonghua.
The exhibition was organized by Shanghai Art Institute and will last until October 12.
