The evening show for China's National Day is a long-time tradition in Houston, said Li Guixi, Chinese deputy consul general in Houston. The show presented by Chinese artists conveys love and greeting from the motherland to overseas Chinese, he said.

"Commissioned by All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, we, Liaoning Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, brought the show to Houston to convey the greeting from the Chinese government and provincial-level federations of returned overseas Chinese," said Wang Zhifeng, chairman of Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese in Liaoning Province.

Through this show, the federation hopes to encourage Chinese nationals to achieve more in the future and live a happy life, he said.

The annual variety show for the Chinese National Day, since its inauguration in 1996, has been a big thing among Chinese communities in Houston, said Yingying Sun, chairwoman of the Organizing Committee of the show.

With support from all walks of life, the show has been successful in promoting Chinese culture, enhancing China-U.S. understanding and increasing friendship between the two peoples, said Sun.
