PARIS, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- French Education Minister Vincent Peillon on Thursday said 40,000 more teachers will be hired next year in line with the Socialists' schedule to increase educational staff.
In an interview with France culture radio, the minister announced the recruitment of "about 40,000 teachers" in 2013 without elaborating.
The planned jobs were below an initial government's promise to create 60,000 jobs in education, a proposal considered irresponsible by the opposition that warned against further rise in public spending and deficit.
During former conservative president Nicolas Sarkozy's term in office, France cut off jobs for 80,000 educational workers.
