BUDAPEST, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Wang Xiao from China and Aleksandra Kuls from Poland jointly received first prize at Budapest's 46th International Music Competition on Saturday.
The 2012 event was called the Jozsef Szigeti International Violin and Viola Competition, named after the Hungarian violin virtuoso who died in 1973.
Erno Kallai of Hungary came second and also won the audience prize.
Wang, 25, currently studies in New York at the Manhattan School of Music. Prior to moving to New York he studied at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and the middle school of Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing.
Kuls, 21, studies at the Academy of Music in Krakow in Poland.
The music event attracted 88 competitors from 24 countries and regions.
