BEIJING, Sept. 21 (Xinhuanet) -- Apple's online payment service, Apple Pay, is set to become active in Shanghai Free Trade Zone.
The company hasn't set a date for the launch of its mobile payment service.
However, CEO Tim Cook is on-record saying Apple hopes to have Apple Pay up-and-running in Shanghai as quickly as possible.
Apple Pay uses near field communication technology and fingerprint recognition to allow users make contactless payments in stores.
Alibaba currently dominates China's online payment sector, with Alipay controlling around 80 percent of the market.
