BEIJING, Sept. 2 (Xinhuanet) -- In the afternoon of Sept. 1 local time, China Meteorological Administration (CMA) and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration of USA (NOAA) signed an Agreement to extend the Protocol on Cooperation in the Field of Atmospheric Science and Technology betweeen China and U.S., and the Summary of 19th Joint Working Group (JWG) session.
Dr. Zheng Guoguang, Administrator of CMA, Dr. Kathryn Sullivan, Administrator of NOAA and Dr. Holly Bamford, representative of NOAA signed the Agreement on behalf of both sides. Dr. Zheng Guoguang, director of JWG Chinese team, and Louis Uccellini, Assistant Administrator of NOAA and director of JWG American team signed the talk Summary.
According to the Summary, two sides will carry out science and technology cooperation in six fields including climate and monsoon, development research, numerical forecast, meteorological modernization, satellite meteorology and training.
Zheng Guoguang and Louis Uccellini also exchanged views and reached a consensus on improving cooperative mechanism, expand cooperation contents, constructing meteorological modernization and enhancing communication in international organizations.
Since the signing of Protocol on Cooperation in the Field of Atmospheric Science and Technology in 1979, China and US have developed extensive and effective cooperation, which draws high attention from both governmernts.
In the seventh China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue in June, 2015, four cooperative proposals including joint research of disastrous weather monitoring, joint research and greenhouse gases monitoring, climate science and climate service, space weather forecast and service are included into cooperative activities list.
