BEIJING, April 26 (Xinhuanet) -- A deep desire to preserve an international order lays the foundation of “common purpose” between China and the United States, said Kevin Michael Rudd in an interview with Xinhuanet lately.
Referring to his newly published research report “The Future of U.S.-China Relations Under Xi Jinping”, Kevin Rudd, former Australian prime minister, said “The two countries are constantly different.”
But if the two sides push the details at one side and look at what lies underneath, there are in fact many common interests, Rudd said.
What unifies China and the U.S. potentially is common interest and common value, he stressed.
He also said he is now seeing Chinese foreign policy becoming ever more active and proactive -- bilaterally, regionally and globally for regional and global security and prosperity.
I thought it was time to make small contribution to improve the China-U.S. relations, he said.
From a constructive perspective and based on the realistic situation of the China-U.S. relationships, he said, the two sides need a central strategic concept, which can address the fundamental issue and is conducive to broad and profound cooperation.
The more they cooperate, the more problems they solve together, the more political and diplomatic capital they will create, which can be drawn upon to help solve the problems for the future as in the past, he added.
