BEIJING, March 23 (Xinhuanet) – Northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region has marked a tremendous progress in building a well-off society by achieving an annual GDP of 275.21 billion yuan (44.33 billion U.S. dollars) and per capita GDP of 41,835 yuan (6739.62 U.S. dollars) in 2014, said a NPC deputy and Director of Ningxia Development and Reform Commission Zhang Bawu in an exclusive interview with Xinhuanet lately.
Since China's Development of the West Regions project started, under the support of CPC Central Committee and the State Council, Ningxia has promoted economic and social development and accelerated the building of a well-off society in an all-round way, Zhang added.
In the past year, Ningxia's GDP growth ranking rose from the 21st to the 15th among China's provinces; Its urban resident's per capita income reached 23,285 yuan (3751.21 U.S. dollars) and rural resident's per capita income 8,410 yuan (1354.85 U.S. dollars).
Public services and social security has also been greatly improved in Ningxia, he added.
"We should cherish such hard-win achievements, given the difficult natural conditions and less-developed industry bases," Zhang said.
He said the Ningxia government has set goals to make the region an open, prosperous, harmonious and beautiful region, which Ningxia people will strive for so as to enter the well-off society at an early date with other parts of China.
