BEIJING, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday urged more efforts to support the country's retired veterans financially and spiritually to ensure them a happy later life.

Xi, who also heads the Central Military Commission, said in a letter that all retired soldiers have contributed to the Party-led revolutionary wars, state-building and reform.

The retired veterans will never be forgotten by the Party and the people, he said. Xi asked officials to show concern for the soldiers and ensure they spend their remaining years in comfort.
