BEIJING, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- China's media regulator asked organizations and individuals not to take press card update as an excuse to turn down media's reporting.
The State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT) said in a statement Friday that they learned that some organizations had refused interview requests because reporters held expired press cards.
The SAPPRFT updates press cards every five years. The current press cards held by most Chinese reporters were due by March 31 but the SAPPRFT have yet issued new ones.
In April and July the administration issued notices to extend the valid date of current press cards till new cards arrive.
The SAPPRFT called on all organizations and individuals to cooperate with its update work and not to hinder the normal work of qualified reporters.
They can visit the website of press.gapp.gov.cn, run by the SAPPRFT, to double check a reporter's identification, the statement said.
