Jackie Chan's son detained on drug charges

BEIJING, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Jaycee Chan, son of Chinese Kungfu star Jackie Chan, has been detained on suspicion of accommodating suspected drug users in Beijing, local police confirmed on Monday.

Taiwan movie star Ko Chen-tung, also known as Kai Ko, was detained after testing positive for marijuana on Aug. 14, according to sources with the Beijing Police authority. Chan, 32, also tested positive for marijuana. Both admitted taking the drug.

Police seized more than 100 grams of marijuana from Chan's home.

Song, 33, was caught the following day for allegedly selling the drug to Chan. Police also seized 11 grams of marijuana.

Ko Chen-tung won the best new actor at the 48th Golden Horse Awards and the 12th Chinese Film Media Awards for his role in the movie "You are the Apple of my Eye".

Beijing police has tightened its curb on drug deals this year. Since January, more than 1,700 drug crimes have been cracked, up 53.2 percent from the same period of last year while more than 7,800 suspects detained, up 71.9 percent from the same period of last year. Over 120 kilograms of drugs have been seized, up 41.6 percent from last year.
