Hong Kong's average wage rate up 4.1 pct in March

English.news.cn   2014-06-27 17:00:16

HONG KONG, June 27 (Xinhua) -- The average wage rate for all the selected industry sections surveyed in Hong Kong, as measured by the wage index, rose 4.1 percent in nominal terms in March over a year earlier, the city's statistics department said here on Friday.

About 75 percent of the companies reported increase in average wage rates in March, 2014 compared with a year ago, while 24 percent of the companies recorded decrease in average wage rates over the same period.

The remaining 1 percent reported virtually no change in average wage rates.

A government spokesman said nominal wages sustained steady year- on-year growth in March amid a persistently tight labor market, and the lower-paid workers continued to fare better, bolstered in part by the upward adjustment of the Statutory Minimum Wage in May, 2013.
