BEIJING, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Top Chinese legislator Zhang Dejiang on Wednesday met with visiting Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, pledging to strengthen parliamentary ties with Italy.
Zhang, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the country's top legislature, commended the friendship between China and Italy and said he believes the prime minister's visit will further strengthen China-Italy ties.
Both China and Italy are in a process of reform, Zhang noted, saying the NPC is willing to intensify engagement with the Italian parliament and exchange experience on legislation and governance for better development of bilateral ties.
Renzi praised the sound development of the two nations' relationship and voiced the hope that they enhance bilateral cooperation.
