BEIJING, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine's ambassador to China vowed on Friday that the European country's cooperation with China will be deepened following its election of a new president and its continuance of a friendly policy toward China.
The Ukraine-China partnership has developed quickly, said Oleg Dyomin, citing the signing of a cooperation treaty and the approval last year of a plan to deepen the two nations' strategic partnership from 2014 to 2018.
Petro Poroshenko was elected Ukraine's president on May 25. Chinese President Xi Jinping called and congratulated him on Wednesday.
Dyomin stressed that the Ukraine crisis won't affect the country's cooperation with China. "The Ukrainian government has made its promise clearly. It will adhere to the documents signed by each side and implement the existing cooperation projects, in the hope of pushing mutual cooperation to a higher level," he said.
The two countries are strongly complementary in their economies, as Ukraine needs China's modern technology and facilities and China is interested in Ukraine's agricultural products and technology, according to Dyomin.
The ambassador noted that the two countries have cooperated in fields including agriculture, food, energy and infrastructure construction.
The two sides are also expecting to cooperate in utilizing China's modern communication technologies, he added.
Dyomin also said that Ukraine supports and is willing to participate in the Silk Road Economic Belt proposed by Xi Jinping.
