BEIJING, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese police will start a year-long nationwide anti-terror operation, the Ministry of Public Security said Sunday.
The ministry asked police in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and in the rest of the country to cooperate and launch a strong and joint offensive against terrorism.
Xinjiang police announced the start of the campaign on Friday. According to them, the campaign will last until June 2015.
Police are urged to stop terrorists from striking again and prevent terrorists and religious extremists from spreading from Xinjiang to the rest of the country.
Police identify Urumqi attack suspects
URUMQI, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Police have identified five suspects who took part in a terrorist attack on Thursday that killed 39 innocent people and injured another 94, local authorities said Friday night.
Four of the suspects died in the bomb attack and their DNA have been identified. Another one was caught by police on Thursday night in Bayingolin Mongolia Autonomous Prefecture. Full story
China briefs foreign security attaches on Xinjiang attack
BEIJING, May 23 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Public Security (MPS) on Friday briefed 33 foreign security attaches from 29 countries on the attack in Xinjiang that left 31 dead and more than 90 injured.
Foreign security attaches from countries including the United States, Russia and New Zealand were shown videos and pictures of the explosion scenes. Full story
Xinjiang starts campaign against terror
URUMQI, May 23 (Xinhua) -- A one-year campaign against terrorist violence in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region got underway on Friday, local authorities said.
The region saw its bloodiest day in five years on Thursday when 39 people were killed and 94 injured in a terrorist attack. Full story
EU condemns terrorist attack in China's Xinjiang
BRUSSELS, May 23 (Xinhua) -- The European Union (EU) on Friday condemned the terrorist attack in China's Xinjiang and extend sympathies to the families and friends of the victims.
"The EU has received reports of a terrorist attack on a market in Urumqi, Xinjiang, in China on 22 May ... We condemn this senseless act of violence and extend our heartfelt sympathies to the families and friends of the victims," EU said in a statement. Full story
