BEIJING, April 25 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislator Zhang Dejiang met with visiting Danish Queen Margrethe II in Beijing on Friday, vowing joint efforts with Denmark for a closer all-round strategic partnership.
Zhang, chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, spoke highly of the contribution Queen Margrethe II has made to promoting China-Denmark exchanges and cooperation.
Queen Margrethe II has reached important consensus with Chinese President Xi Jinping in the future development of bilateral ties during her current trip, Zhang said.
China hopes to join with Denmark to implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state, and push forward stronger ties, he added.
Concerning parliamentary ties, Zhang said the NPC and its Standing Committee hope to further cement exchanges and cooperation with the Danish parliament, and share experiences in legislation and governance.
Queen Margrethe II, on her second trip to China since 1979, lauded the friendship between the two peoples, saying she believes both countries would see sustained growth of their cooperation.
She is paying a state visit to China from Thursday to Monday at Xi's invitation. In September 1979, she was the first Western head of state to visit China after the country's reform and opening-up policy.
Xi held talks with her in Beijing on Thursday. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang met her earlier on Friday.
